Telephones
|
The local telephone boxes in Crete generally use telephone cards, which can be purchased at various shops in Gouves. A € 3 card usually provides between 8-10 min call to the UK. The Crete telephone networkis just as good as anywhere else in the developed world (you might occasionally get a busy signal at peak times when phoning abroad). Public card phones are everywhere. You can buy phone cards (to the value of € 3 and € 15) at every kiosk and in many shops. |

Phoning abroad (EU countries) costs about € 0.35. per minute. In larger locations you can also go to the telephone office (the Greek telephone company is called OTE) if you prefer to call from a cabin with a meter. Useful for longer phone calls. You can also phone from a lot of kiosks (they also have meters) but it will cost a little more (10 -20%) per unit.
